IT'S NOT THE FIRST TIME SOMEONE HAS SCRUTINIZED DANE
COUNTY DEPARTMENT OF HUMAN SERVICES AND ITS RESOURCES.
we did ask child protective services to go...
FAMILY OF BRAYDEN TURNBILL... A 5-YEAR-OLD SUN PRAIRIE
BOY WHO DIED FROM ABUSE... SAID THERE WASN'T ENOUGH
...to the best of my knowledge we dont believe that
THE DISTRICT ATTORNEY SAID THE SYSTEM FAILED A TEENAGE
GIRL IN MADISON... WHO WAS NEGLECTED, STARVED AND
FORCED TO LIVE IN HER BASEMENT.
HER FATHER, CHAD CHRITTON, WAS CONVICTED OF THE CRIME.
SHELLEY FULLA, Baker Tilly: I think there's recognition
that not everything can be funded.
THE AUDIT PRESENTED THURSDAY MAKES ABOUT TWO DOZEN
RECOMMENDATIONS... ALL FOCUSED ON FOCUSING ON CORE
SERVICES... AND POSSIBLY CUTTING DOWN OTHER SERVICES
TO DO THAT.
CHRISTINE SMITH, Baker Tilly: It really is about
figuring out what is it that needs to be prioritized
because there is no more money. There's no way to
make things work differently within the county, given
the money that you have.
LYNN GREEN, Dane Co. Human Services Dept. Director:
We all believe in prevention and early intervention
and have fought hard to sustain that, but we're going
to have to talk about our ability to continue doing
STEVE STRONG WORKS FOR COMMUNITY PARTNERSHIPS.
HE AND OTHER PROVIDERS INCLUDED IN THE AUDIT SAY
ONE OF THE MOST IMPORTANT CHANGES IS COST OF LIVING
THAT IS... THE COUNTY SHELLING OUT ENOUGH TO COVER
THE RISING COST OF CARE.
WITHOUT THAT EXTRA MONEY... THE LEVEL OF SERVICE
IS IN JEOPARDY.
I know the county budgets for that. When the costs
are going to go up, they budget for that first. And
it's not budgeted for the POS community, yet we're
providing the services we were asked to do. 58
We have to work together on this.
