SECURITY WAS BEEFED UP AT REEDSBURG ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS
TODAY FOLLOWING A THREAT...
NEWS THREE'S JESSICA ARP TELLS US THAT SOME PARENTS
WERE ON HIGH ALERT.
POLICE SAY THEY FOUND A FACEBOOK THREAT NOT CREDIBLE
BUT PROVIDED INCREASED SECURITY ANYWAY...
THAT WASN'T ENOUGH FOR SOME PARENTS.
nat of them playing?
FOR THE KIDS.
IT'S JUST ANOTHER DAY TO PLAY AT HOME...
FOR AMANDA ANDERSON.
KEEPING THEM HOME.
WAS PEACE OF MIND.
Amanda Anderson, Kept Daughter Home from Pinewood
Just to keep myself calm during the day I know the
police have everything under control and they said
that they spoke with everyon they needed to, but it
just makes me feel better to know they're home.
SHE WAS WORRIED ABOUT AN ONLINE THREAT TO A REEDSBURG
POLICE SAY 21-YEAR-OLD DAKOTA BERNDT POSTED A STATUS
ON FACEBOOK WEDNESDAY NIGHT SAYING QUOTE 'I'M GOING
TO BREAK AND SHOOT UP AN ELEMNTARY SCHOOL.'
BERNDT WAS ARRESTED THAT NIGHT, ON DISORDERLY CONDUCT
HE WAS RELEASED ON BOND WITHIN AN HOUR.
AFTERWARD, POLICE DETERMINED THE THREAT WAS NOT LEGITIMATE.
Timothy Becker, Reedsburg Chief of Police
:50 Taking in consideration of the interview that
we did with him and the suroundings that he was in,
he had no wepons available to him at the time, and
he wasn't able to identifiy any school that he had
a gruge against, so it was just basically, how he
explained it was that he was letting off steam by
making the threat.
THAT DIDN'T EASE THE MINDS OF PARENTS.
WHO FLOODED THE POLICE DEPARTMENT WITH CONCERNED CALLS
ABOUT WHETHER THEIR KIDS SHOULD GO TO SCHOOL.
I can't make that decision for them, I know that...I
dont have elementary age schools, I have highschool
aged kids...and they're in school today.
ANDERSON DIDN'T AGREE...
AND IS STILL LEFT UNEASY.
Anderson to know that he was 21 and had nothing to
do with the school system anymore is kind of what
caught me off gaurd so much and not seeing the original
post and really wondering what his meaning was behind
it, is whats hard
ADDITIONAL CHARGES ARE PENDING FOR BERNDT.
AS THE SAUK COUNTY DISTRICT ATTORNEY'S OFFICE REVIEWS
WE ALSO SPOKE WITH REESBURG SCHOOL DISTRICT SUPERINTENDENT
BENSON SAYS THE DISTRICT DECIDED NOT TO PUT THE SCHOOLS
ON LOCK DOWN BECAUSE THE SITUATION WAS UNDER CONTROL.
BUT SAYS THE SITUATION WILL BE TAKEN SERIOUSLY AND
POLICE PRESENCE AT THE SCHOOL WILL CONTINUE FOR AS
LONG AS IT IS NECESSARY.
