NEXT AT SIX, A CRASH ON THE INTERSTATE THIS MORNING
WAS THE SECOND CLOSE CALL THIS WEEK FOR DANE COUNTY
NEWS THREE'S JESSICA ARP WAS ON THE SCENE, AND HAS
A WARNING NOW FROM COUNTY OFFICIALS.
THEY'RE USING THIS CRASH.
AND ONE YESTERDAY.
TO REMIND DRIVERS THAT AS WE ENTER CONSTRUCTION SEASON...
THEY HAVE TO MOVE OVER.
NAT FROM INTERSTATE AX?
TRAFFIC WAS SNARLED FOR SOME SIX MILES DOWN INTERSTATE
90 AFTER A CRASH INVOLVING TWO VEHICLES.
AND A DANE COUNTY HIGHWAY TRUCK.
we do know that the female that was driving the jeep
this morning that struck the county highway truck
did lose control of the vehicle just prior to that,
veering off and hitting the unoccupied miantenance
TWO HIGHWAY WORKERS WERE FIXING A MILE MARKER SIGN...
WHEN THEY CAME WITHIN FEET OF THE CRASH.
THE DRIVER OF AN S-U-V...SEVERELY INJURED.
AFTER HITTING THE WORKER'S TRUCK, AND A PRIUS.
THE CRASH PROMPTED A REACTION FROM COUNTY LEADERS...BECAUSE
IT WAS THE SECOND CLOSE CALL IN TWO DAYS.
ANOTHER COUNTY WORKER WAS REAR-ENDED IN A COUNTY TRUCK
ON THE BELTLINE.
they were very sad, very distraught, and they realize
that when they come back to work that theyre goign
to go back out and do this again :22 very upset, why
cant people see us, we have flaishing lights, have
warning equipment, why dont they heed the warnings
to move over
IT'S NOT JUST A WARNING.
IT'S LAW THAT DRIVERS MUST MOVE OVER FOR HIGHWAY WORK
OR EMERGENCY RESPONSE ON THE ROADS...
WHICH CAN BE A LIFE OR DEATH MATTER.

:06 that we lost a county employee not many years
ago to ainattentive driving :13 and that is in the
midnsd of all our workers who are doing their duties
on the roadways :22
THE SHERIFF SAYS HE PLANS TO INCREASE PATROLS ON ENFORCE
THE MOVE OVER LAW...
THE CITATION FOR THAT IS 264 DOLLARS.
BUT DOUBLED IN CONSTRUCTION ZONES.
