ROCK COUNTY, Wis. -- A Rock County woman had her murder sentence drastically reduced on Friday, but her family is still upset. After serving three years and five months of a life sentence for the killing of her husband, Harold in 1998, Debra Head received a reduction to 10 years from Rock County Circuit Court Judge Michael Byron. But Head was hoping to walk away a free woman.Head's family, along with her attorney, says that she has shown strides while out on bond. But prosecutors made sure to point out that Head still pulled the trigger."I regret pulling the trigger," Head said. "But I reacted to Harold's reaction, and at that time I felt threatened … like I have never been. I believe I have shown this community I am not a threat to anyone."Dr. Darald Hanusa, a psychotherapist at the Midwest Domestic Resource Center with experience dealing with domestic violence says that Head was nothing more than a battered woman in an abusive relationship."I believe that she will have a lifetime of memories about this episode and her life with him," said Hanusa. "And I believe she does not pose a risk to the community to repeat lethal violence."Head will serve her time at the Dodge County Correctional Facility, and since her original case came before the Truth-In-Sentencing law, she should be eligible for parole almost immediately.Judge Byron said that if the parole board agrees, he has no problem with her release.
