Donated Makeover Includes 2,000 Books, Eco-Friendly Technology

Students at Ralph Waldo Elementary School will have more to read at their library and at home thanks to a recent donation.

An organization called Heart of America partnered with Target Stores and the Madison Public School District to bring 2,000 new books to the library, while also transforming the space with new, eco-friendly technology, lighting, flooring and furniture.

As a bonus, each student was allowed to take home and keep seven of the new books.

"They've been counting down the days to see this space, the children and teachers alike, so they've done an incredible job of keeping this a surprise. The faces on those children are going to be priceless when they get in here and see what's happened here," John Flynn, spokesperson for Heart of America, said.

He said 100 volunteers turned out to help complete the project Friday.

"This library not only serves as a hub and center of learning at this school here, but it also serves the community as a gathering place for the school and the local community to come together and really celebrate learning and reading," Flynn said.
