IOWA COUNTY SHERIFF'S DEPUTIES FOUND THE ANIMALS ON
A FARM NEAR THE TOWN OF ARENA ON MARCH 1ST.
NEWS THREE REPORTER DAVE DELOZIER WAS IN IOWA COUNTY
TODAY AND JOINS US.
DAVE - WE UNDERSTAND THE OWNERS ARE BEING INVESTIGATED
ON POSSIBLE NEGLECT CHARGES.
ERIC - THAT DECISON WILL BE LEFT UP THE DISTRICT ATTORNEY.
SHERIFF'S INVESTIGATORS BELIEVE IT WAS THE FAMILIES
DECISION TO NOT ASK FOR HELP THAT ENDED WITH THE ANIMALS
we received an anonymous call.
FROM A DISTANCE - YOU'D NEVER KNOW.
we had deputies respond to that location and they
did in fact discover that there were some dead animals
as well as some animals that had a lack of feed and
SHERIFF'S INVESTIGATORS FOUND 10 DEAD COWS AND CALVES
ALONG WITH ONE DEAD HOG.
28 MALNOURISHED COWS AND CALVES WERE TAKEN FROM THE
FARM AND TREATED BY A VET.
THOSE ANIMALS WERE THEN PLACED ON OTHER FARMS.
THE ANIMALS WERE OWNED BY KARL AND ANN NELSON.
INVESTIGATORS DON'T BELIEVE THE COUPLE INTENDED FOR
THIS TO HAPPEN.
they were doing the best they could to care for the
animals and it just got away from them.
the biggest ting is to not be afraid to reach out
and ask for help.

AND HELPED WITH THIS INVESTIGATION.
SHE SAYS -AS WITH OTHER CASES - THIS JUST DIDN'T HAVE

ONCE THE INVESTIGATION IS COMPLETE - THE DISTRICT
ATTORNEY WILL DETERMINE WHAT - IF ANY CHARGES - KARL
AND ANN NELSON WILL FACE.
THE MESSAGE THE SHERIFF WANTS OTHERS TO HEAR IS THIS.
it doesn't have to go this far before somebody needs
to ask for help or should ask for help.
THE NELSON'S ALSO OPERATE A HORSE BOARDING OPERATION
ON THE FARM.
INVESTIGATORS SAY ALL OF THE HORSES ARE BEING VERY
WELL CARED FOR AND THAT OPERATION NOT IMPACTED BY
THE SHERIFF ALSO SAYS THE FAMILY HAS BEEN FULLY COOPERATING
