Police: Men Cause 3 Crashes In Madison

Men Arrested On Multiple Charges

Updated: 10:07 pm CDT September 2, 2010

Two men suspected of operating a car while intoxicated caused three crashes Wednesday afternoon before being arrested, Madison police said.

Police said a 29-year-old Sun Prairie woman was stopped in traffic at the intersection of Pflaum and Stoughton roads at 4:18 p.m. when her sport utility vehicle was rear-ended by a car the men were in, a green Saturn.

Police said the woman got out of her SUV, looked back and saw the driver and the passenger of the Saturn change positions in the car.

Police said the men agreed to follow the woman into a nearby parking lot to exchange information, but the new driver of Saturn rear-ended the woman's SUV a second time.

The woman told the men she was calling police, and she said she watched as the new driver of the Saturn accelerated, drove over a curb sped off northbound on a frontage road, according to Madison police.

Police said the Saturn then collided head-on with a car driven by a 46-year old Fitchburg man, causing extensive damage.

Following the third collision, the Saturn rolled over, police said. When officers arrived, the car was smoking and upside down.

The two men in the Saturn were taken to a local hospital, as was the Fitchburg driver.

The Fitchburg driver suffered a broken wrist and possible spinal damage.

Police said the men in the Saturn -- Antonio Estrada-Manjarrez, 18, and Carlos Manjarrez-De La Paz, 19, both of Madison -- were both arrested on a host of tentative charges, including OWIs, hit-and-run and reckless driving.
