Sun Prairie Man Arrested On OWI Charge

Police Say Man Initially Lied About His Identity

Updated: 2:17 pm CDT August 31, 2010

A Sun Prairie man was arrested on a misdemeanor charge of operating while intoxicated early Monday morning, the Dane County Sheriff's Office said.

Authorities said a deputy was traveling eastbound on Gray Road in the town of Windsor at about 12:25 a.m. when he observed the vehicle in front of him cross over the center line.

As the deputy continued to follow, the vehicle crossed over the center line again and then eventually pulled to the side of the road and stopped, authorities said.

Sheriff's officials said the deputy then made contact with the driver, who initially lied to the deputy about his identity.

Sheriff's officials said that after conducting field sobriety tests, David C. Bryan, 61, was arrested on charges of fourth offense OWI and obstructing an officer.

Dane County Sheriff's Office public information officer Elise Schaffer said this fourth offense OWI is a misdemeanor, not a felony. She said the new state law states that the fourth OWI offense must be within five years of the third to be a felony, and in Bryan's case, his third OWI offense was in June 2005.
