Wisconsin veterans received recognition for their service at the dedication of a new war memorial on Saturday.

Hundreds gathered at the Sauk Prairie Airport to honor the state's military veterans currently serving as well as those who have completed their service.

The permanent memorial showcases an Air Force fighter jet, Army helicopter and a tank for residents to visit.

The dedication brought out U.S. Sen. Russ Feingold and U.S. Rep. Tammy Baldwin.

"You know you bring kids out here, and you say, 'OK, what is this about?' And that's how a kid then says, 'You know, maybe I'd like to read about World War II. Maybe I'd like to go into the military.' These are the kinds of symbolic places that cause people to be inspired to dedicate themselves to the protection of this country," said Feingold.

The event inspired Baldwin to speak about veterans' rights.

"Whether it is the GI Bill that says they have a right to a college education or whether they come back with health needs, disabilities, we need to make sure that we step up and fulfill our promises as they have to us," said Baldwin.

The dedication was part of the "Sauk Prairie Airport Fly-In and Community Day."

The event also gave visitors the chance to ride in planes, helicopters and a hot air balloon.
