The Beloit Police Department has been awarded a $23,000 grant through the Wisconsin Department of Transportation to crack down on drunken driving.

The Beloit Police Department said thanks to the grant, it will be patrolling in greater numbers and for longer hours to arrest impaired motorists.

The "Drunk Driving -- Over the Limit. Under Arrest" crackdown will combine high-visibility law enforcement with a federally funded media campaign to deter impaired driving.

The Beloit Police Department will be participating in a statewide crackdown from Aug. 23 to Sept. 6.
