FEMA Documents Grant County Flood Damage

Damage Estimates Top $730,000

Updated: 1:50 pm CDT July 30, 2010

FEMA officials toured Grant County on Thursday to document damage from last weekend's storms.

Around 10 inches of rain fell in just a couple of hours, flooding basements and washing away roads in some areas, many residents said. Damage estimates so far top $730,000, WISC-TV reported.

FEMA officials said about a dozen Grant County homes suffered structural damage.

"Looking at some of the more extensive damage, in many cases we're talking about structural damage, homes that have cracks in their foundation, and unfortunately a few that have walls that have totally collapsed," said Gene Romano, public information specialist for FEMA.

Romano's team is one of five FEMA teams looking at homes and businesses throughout Wisconsin that were damaged by the storms.

FEMA will deliver its findings to the governor’s office. Gov. Jim Doyle will use the data to determine whether to apply for federal disaster aid.
