KEEP YOUR WATER ON.
THAT'S THE MESSAGE FROM REEDSBURG'S UTILITY TODAY IN
ORDER TO KEEP THE CITY'S PIPES FROM BURSTING.
NEWS 3'S ADAM SCHRAGER JOINS US.
ADAM, THIS ISN'T THE ONLY CITY ASKING RESIDENTS TO DO THIS.
THE WISCONSIN RURAL WATER ASSOCIATION SAYS
ABOUT TEN COMMUNITIES STATEWIDE ARE DOING THIS...
WE'VE KNOWN ANECDOTALLY HOW COLD THIS WINTER'S BEEN.
BUT NOW THERE'S EMPIRICAL EVIDENCE AS WELL.
THE FROST LEVEL IN PLACES LIKE REEDSBURG IS
TWICE AS DEEP AS IT'S BEEN IN DECADES.
IT IS THE KIND OF REQUEST
THAT WOULD MAKE ANY CALIFORNIA NATIVE CRINGE...
NO DROUGHT TO FIGHT IN REEDSBURG...
The main thing is to keep the water running...
ONLY A REQUEST FROM THE CITY'S UTILITY
TO KEEP THEIR WATER PIPES FROM BURSTING.
They need to leave that run until we
give them the ok to shut it off...
I think a lot of pipes would be broken, if not.
FOR SOME RESIDENTS, IT WON'T BE A PROBLEM.
I run water constantly all day with the
kids and doing dishes, there's always running water.
EVERYONE KNOWS HOW COLD IT'S BEEN.
What do you do, you gotta go with the flow...
GOING WITH THE FLOW HELPS WITH THE
REALIZATION THE WATER BILL WON'T GO UP.
That's nice, that's nice.
IT'LL BE AN AVERAGE OF LAST YEAR'S BILL INSTEAD..
We're in the first part of February,
we've got a long ways to go...
A LONG WAYS AND A LOT OF WATER.
I'm ready for spring laughs
AREN'T WE ALL...
JOHN CRAKER WITH THE UTILITY SAID HIS CREWS ARE GOING
OUT DAILY ON BROKEN WATER MAIN AND FROZEN PIPE CALLS.
BY LEAVING A PENCIL-THIN STREAM ON, THE HOPE IS TO
KEEP THE LINES FROM THE STREETS TO PEOPLE'S HOMES UNFROZEN.
COULD BE SOMETHING THEY DO FOR THE NEXT MONTH.

ADAM SCHRAGER, THANKS.
