A Wisconsin State Patrol trooper said that he witnessed three different crashes within 20 minutes of each other early Saturday morning.

All three crashes happened near mile marker 179 just south of Janesville on the westbound side of Interstate 90.

The first crash happened about 6:30 a.m. The trooper was called to the scene after a vehicle slid off the road. Fortunately, the driver and single passenger were wearing seatbelts and were not hurt.

While assisting at the first scene, the same trooper witnessed a second crash just 10 minutes later as an SUV lost control and flipped over several times. The driver had to be extricated from the vehicle. He and his passenger suffered non-life threatening injuries.

While helping at the second crash, the trooper watched another one just nine minutes later.

This time, a van rolled over after trying to slow down on a bridge. Five of the van's eight occupants had to be transported to a hospital, all suffering non-life threatening injuries.

After the third crash, Interstate 90 was closed in the immediate area for about 90 minutes, authorities said.
