Police Seek Gunman After East Side Shooting
Man Hospitalized After Overnight Shooting

MADISON, Wis. -- Madison police are searching for a gunman wanted in connection to an overnight shooting on the city's East Side early Friday morning that left one man hurt.The shooting happened at what is normally a very busy intersection at Pflaum and Stoughton roads shortly after 1:30 a.m. on Friday.Officers responded to a report of people in two cars firing multiple shots at each other. Police said that a man got out of one vehicle and began firing at the other. A 26-year-old man was hit amid the gunfireThe victim was shot once and taken to the hospital in one of the cars involved in the shooting. Police tried to pull over the speeding vehicle on Park Street, but the driver refused to stop. The car took the victim to Meriter Hospital, where he was stabilized and transferred to University of Wisconsin Hospital, police said. The victim remains hospitalized. Police said that they believe those involved in the shooting knew each other and don't think they were from the neighborhood near the intersection.Authorities said that they're now trying to find another car seen in the incident."Having people out there shooting at each other on a busy street in a busy intersection is not good for the community, obviously," said Joel DeSpain, Madison police's public information officer. "We want to try to get these people off the streets as quickly as we can."Police said that they believe it was some kind of disagreement -- and not road rage -- that led to the shooting.Authorities said that they're now looking for an older gray, GMC Yukon SUV with tinted windows and custom rims.Police said that anyone who sees a vehicle that matches that description is asked to call 911 immediately.
