Madison's Urban Design Commission approved the latest version of the expansion plan early Thursday morning on a 5-4 vote, the Wisocnsin State Journal reported.

The new plan will move the new hotel tower 15 feet off Wisconsin Avenue and add additional parking.

The plans now go to the Planning Commission for approval.

Alder Bridget Maniaci, who represents District 2, said that the commission will handle many of the outstanding issues with the plan.

"Now (the) Planning commission will deal with a lot of other issues regarding usage," she said. "There's been a lot of discussion about the terrace and how that will be operated. That's all the Planning Commission's purview."

The $93 million hotel redevelopment project has had a rollercoaster ride through various city committees in the last year. At times, the project has faced opposition from area residents and most recently, from Department of Natural Resources officials regarding elements of the plan.
