Police: Uncle Doesn't Face Charges

MILWAUKEE -- An 8-year old boy remains hospitalized after drinking a large amount of beer Sunday.Police said the boy stole the alcohol from his uncle's refrigerator, went to a park and drank it.He came home and slipped into a coma.Police said the 8-year-old boy drank so much beer that his blood alcohol level was 0.175. That's past the legal limit of 0.10The boy's mother, Hattie Nolen, told 12 News her son is out of the coma and doing OK, but she's very upset this happened.
The uncle was babysitting four other children when the 8-year-old took two cans of Steel Reserve beer out of the fridge.Police said the boy then went to Carver Park at 9th and Brown and drank the beer.A typical can of beer is 12 ounces and has an alcohol content of 4 percent, but this particular beer is 16.5 ounces and has an alcohol content of 8.1 percent.So, the boy had almost six cans of regular beer.After drinking the alcohol, the boy went back to his uncle's house and passed out.The uncle told a neighbor to call 911 and the child was rushed to Children's Hospital.Police said the boy slipped into an alcohol-induced coma.The boy's mother is not sure when he'll go home.Police said the boy's uncle doesn't face any charges.
