A missing 3-year-old boy was found safe after disappearing for two hours on the city's West Side on Tuesday.

Police say the boy was found at about 12:30 p.m. on Tuesday during a second sweep of Lutheran Church of the Living Christ, located on Gammon Road and near James Madison Memorial High School.

According to the church, the incident happened when the boy went missing during an open playgroup session that was there. Officials said it wasn't related to the church's preschool or day care program.

However, the child was found sleeping under a pile of beanbags there.

Police from three departments began the search at about 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday and called in trained dogs to help.

Madison Police Lt. Jay Lengfeld said that they were pleased by the quick response of all surrounding agencies to the incident.

"It was good to see what kind of a reaction with the reverse 911, message boards and the assistance from other agencies. It … should make the community feel good," he said.
