State Officials Encourage Businesses To Stay For Meetings
Tourism, Commerce Secretaries Back Campaign

MADISON, Wis. -- Gov. Jim Doyle and two of his cabinet secretaries are leading an initiative to encourage Wisconsin businesses to stay in state for meetings.Doyle on Monday called on business executives at an annual tourism conference in Milwaukee to choose Wisconsin locations for conventions, trade shows, training sessions and board meetings.Tourism Secretary Kelli Trumble said the campaign, "Meetings Mean Business for Wisconsin," could lead to more jobs and tax revenue. She said Wisconsin offers "good value and excellent facilities."Commerce Secretary Richard Leinenkugel is helping lead the effort, which comes after spending on meetings and conventions in Wisconsin might have dropped in 2009 because of the recession. It had been the state's fastest growing segment of travel.
