Police Seek Suspects, Weapons After Gun Store Heist

Owner Was Tied Up During Theft

Madison police are trying to track down the thieves and the dozens of stolen guns that were taken from a Williamson Street gun store during the weekend.

Police said that two men burglarized Grampa's Gun Shop on the city's East Side at about 2:30 p.m. on Saturday. They tied up the store's 70-year-old owner and stole 30 handguns, three rifles and a shotgun. The store is located in the 1300 block of Williamson Street.

Investigators said that they're still not sure where the weapons are but emphasized it's important to track them down.

"The worst-case scenario is that one of these weapons is used to harm someone or kill someone," said police spokesman Joel DeSpain. "We want to try to take weapon out of the hands of criminals, not put them in the hands of criminals."

A detective has been assigned to the case, WISC-TV reported.

Police said that anyone with information can call Crimestoppers at 608-266-6014.
