UW Band Jazzes Up Meals On Wheels Delivery

Annual 'March For Meals' Campaign Raises Awareness

Updated: 10:42 am CST March 13, 2010

Members of the University of Wisconsin-Madison Marching Band teamed up with Independent Living, Inc., once again to jazz up the organization's Thursday evening Meals on Wheels delivery.

The annual awareness campaign is known as "March for Meals," but the effort continues every night with volunteers delivering 200 meals to homebound seniors.

"I've been doing it for two years. It's very nice to have everything cooked and everything ready to eat. As soon as it comes in, it's hot and just very delicious. I'm very grateful for it," said MollyJean Justo, an 88-year-old served by Independent Living, Inc.

Independent Living is the only organization in Dane County delivering evening meals to seniors in need.

To learn more about the organization's volunteer opportunities, people can visit its Web site at www.IndepenLiving.com or follow the Madison-based nonprofit on Twitter @Ind_Living_Inc.

Members of the UW Band will also perform mini-concerts to meal recipients on March 15, 22 and 30.
