A Tuesday morning fire destroyed a Town of Pleasant Springs home.

Brooklyn firefighters arrived on the scene at 96 Franklin Road and said they quickly realized there was no hope in saving the building already engulfed in flames.

Firefighters from Brooklyn, Oregon, and Evansville all responded.

Officials said they immediately took a defensive position to keep the fire from spreading.

The family said they lost everything in the fire.

Officials said it will be difficult to determine how the fire started due to the extent of damage.

"It's going to be very difficult. There's going to be some questions we ask. The house really is not that old. It's only a 50-year-old house versus some of the older farm houses that we do have. When you get one so involved when you get on scene, it is a rough call," said Philip Mortensen, the chief of the Brooklyn Fire Department.

Damage is estimated at $250,000.
