Teen Charged As Adult In Drug Overdose Case

Edgerton Teen Accused Of Providing Drugs To Victim

Updated: 10:32 pm CST March 9, 2010

Two teenagers arrested in connection with their friend's overdose death appeared in court in Rock County Tuesday.

A 14-year-old Edgerton girl arrested on suspicion of first-degree reckless homicide was charged as an adult.

State statutes require that she be charged as an adult for the offense. She can petition the court to be tried as a juvenile. The 14-year-old is due back in court Thursday.

The girl is accused of stealing the prescription pain killer oxycodone and providing it to two 13-year-old boys.

One of those boys, Alex Aiken, of the Town of Milton, died Feb. 9 after taking the medication.

The other 13-year-old also overdosed and survived.

That boy was also in court Tuesday. The 13-year-old was released Tuesday to the custody of his mother after spending the weekend at the Rock County Juvenile Detention Facility.

He was initially arrested on a charge of possession of prescription medication though a juvenile petition has not been filed.

Both cases have been continued until Thursday afternoon. The 14-year-old girl remains at the Rock County Juvenile Detention Facility until then.
