Location Proposed For Downtown Public Market

City Says Market Could Be Reality As Soon As 2011

Posted: 2:30 pm CST March 7, 2010

Madison is currently considering a new location for a possible public market.

City leaders said the East Government parking ramp off Doty St. would be a perfect spot for a year-round venue similar to a farmers’ market.

The ramp is scheduled for demolition as early as 2012.

The downtown location makes it even more ideal.

Underground parking would be a part of the plan, along with the possibility of mixed-use space on the upper floors.

No word on when the market could be a reality, but the city said it could happen as soon as late next year.
