8 Firefighters Hurt Battling Delavan Sports Bar Fire

Building Was Total Loss

Updated: 7:45 pm CST March 5, 2010

Eight firefighters were injured while fighting a huge fire at a Mulligan's Sports Pub and Grill in the southearn Wisconsin city of Delevan.

The firefighters from the Lake Geneva fire department were injured when a bucket truck they were on came in contact with power lines while visibility was obscured by the thick smoke.

While the firefigherers' injuries were described as non-life threatening, one firefigher suffered serious burns and was expected to be sent to a burn unit.

The blaze apparently started as a grease fire in the kitchen. Bartender Joe Vitacca told the Janesville Gazette he saw flames coming from the fryer. He says a couple of customers were in the dining room at the time. They and several people in an upstairs apartment were able to get out safely.

The building was a total loss.
