Middleton Police Won't Release Report On Abortion Activists

Homeland Security Report Holds Information On Abortion Protesters

Updated: 2:58 pm CST February 8, 2010

The Middleton Police Department is refusing to release a copy of a U.S. Department of Homeland Security report that improperly collected information about Wisconsin abortion protesters.

The report looked at the threat posed by pro- and anti-abortion protesters in 2009 as both sides rallied to support and oppose an abortion clinic proposed by the University of Wisconsin Hospital.

Last week, the police department refused to release the report. An attorney for anti-abortion activists requested a copy under the open records law.

An internal review by Homeland Security concluded that collecting the information on citizens who posed no threat was inappropriate.
