Rehabilitated Eagles Released Into Wild

Raptor Education Group Healed Birds

Updated: 4:56 pm CST February 1, 2010

Three of the nation's birds soared back into their natural habitat in Wisconsin's skies Sunday afternoon.

The blighted bald eagles bounded back into the wild from the Sauk Prairie riverfront. The eagles spend the last few months receiving treatment from the Raptor Education Group, based in Antigo.

Some eagles had broken wings, as well as lead poisoning. Only one of the three birds actually looks bald, as the others haven't fully developed into adults. Local eagle enthusiasts from around Wisconsin cheered those birds back home.

"I think often people think it’s sad to put them back in the wild after they've been with us,” said Marge Gibson, co-founder of Raptor Education Group, "But it really is a measure of our success. So it's always a celebration to see them go home."

Raptor Education Group said the team is still treating 18 other bald eagles at the center, as well as about 100 other feathered patients.
