Event Raises $28,000 For Domestic Abuse Intervention Services

Money Will Benefit Victims Of Domestic Abuse

After a domestic abuse awareness event held last week in Middleton, a check for $28,000 was given to Domestic Abuse Intervention Services (DAIS).

DAIS provides support and services to victims of domestic abuse in Dane County. DAIS officials said its safe house is often in need of items like diapers, formula and blankets. Some of the money raised will go towards those items.

Last week's fundraiser was held at Scatz Nightclub in Middleton on what would have been the 34th birthday of Tracy Judd. She was among the two mothers and two daughters killed in domestic disturbances on Dec. 3. Police said they were killed by Tyrone Adair, of Middleton. Police said the 38-year-old man first killed an ex-girlfriend, Amber Weigel, and their daughter Neveah Weigel-Adair, 2. Police said he then killed Judd, who he was dating, and their 23-month-old daughter Deja Adair. Adair later took his own life. His car was found days later in a rural area.

The Wisconsin Coalition Against Domestic Violence said 59 people died in Wisconsin last year from abuse -- a 10-year high. Nationwide, one in four women will experience domestic violence in her lifetime.
