Deputies Eye Intoxicated Drivers On New Year's Eve
Dane County Won't Add Extra Patrols

MADISON, Wis. -- The Dane County Sheriff's Department won't have any extra patrols for New Year's Eve, but deputies will be watching for drunken drivers.Ten to 13 deputies will be out at any given time, with some looking for drunken drivers.Last year, 13 people were cited for operating while intoxicated.The Dane County Sheriff's Department said it wants people heading out for the holiday to be aware of a free-ride program sponsored by Madison Metro and MillerCoors Brewing Company.Madison Metro buses will offer free rides from 7 p.m. Thursday to 3:30 a.m. Friday.The Madison Metro bus routes differ from the normal schedule."On a night like New Year's, it's a winter night, it's a festive night, and we have one of the largest collection of professional drivers in the city," said Metro Bus Marketing Manager Mick Rusch. "And it's a no-brainer to ride with people that know the city and know the streets."Madison Metro and MillerCoors Brewing Company have been offering the service for the last 16 years.For more information on the free rides, people can call 1-800-FREE RIDES (1-800-373-3743).
