.JEFFERSON, Wis. -- Two people are dead after a shooting early Sunday outside bar in downtown Jefferson. The Daily Jefferson County Union newspaper reported the victims are a woman from outside the county and an unidentified man. The woman died at Fort Memorial Hospital in Fort Atkinson and the Jefferson County Coroner's Office reported that the man died Sunday morning at a Milwaukee hospital.Coroner Patrick Theder said neither victim is being identified, pending notification of their families, but an online tribute page is paying respects to Officer Jennifer Luick and her boyfriend Gregg Peters."I understand she was a six-year veteran of the town of Oconomowoc," said Jefferson Mayor Gary Meyers.Jefferson police said the shooting happened in the parking lot outside the Rock Bottom Saloon and Eatery on Milwaukee Street shortly after 1 a.m. A 24-year-old man has been taken into custody, police said. The shooting has left some residents reeling over the violence."In this community, we're not used to this kind of violence, we don't have violence here," said Myers."I saw the tape out there and heard somebody had gotten killed," said resident Jose Acosta. Acosta lives across the street from the bar where the shooting happened."I was a little freaked out," said Acosta. "I got my girls up there, three daughters, it's kind of scary.""I don't want to make light of this but the last time we had a sensational crime here is when Dillinger hit the bank in the 1930s," said Myers. "Jefferson is a really great place to live and we're crime free."Myers said he was stunned to get the call at 6:30 a.m. on Sunday. He said the bar doesn't have a history of trouble."It happens anywhere," said Acosta. "It's not the town. It's the people."Authorities sadi that the investigation into the shooting is continuing.
