Brothers Get Prison Time For N. Wisconsin Arson Plot

Men Sought Construction Contract

Updated: 11:29 am CST November 20, 2009

Two brothers have been sentenced to prison for plotting to burn down a northern Wisconsin bar in exchange for a construction contract.

U.S. District Judge Barbara Crabb on Thursday sentenced Shawn Dalbec to 18 months in prison and his brother Antoine Dalbec to 12 months.

Prosecutors said the owner of the Somewhere Else Bar in South Range offered Shawn Dalbec an $8,000 construction contract if he would burn down the bar. He and his brother initially took the deal.

Shawn Dalbec started a fire in the bar, but quickly put it out and decided against the plot. The bar was burned down the next day, and prosecutors say they have no evidence linking the Dalbecs to the blaze.

The brothers, both from Maple, pleaded guilty in August to conspiracy to commit arson.
