MADISON, Wis. -- Some area residents will have a chance to weigh in this week on new proposals to protect Dane County's lakes and rivers. Many Madison residents are receiving flyers in the mail or phone calls urging them to make sure their voices are heard on what's called the Dane County Waterbody Classification Project. Results from a study have led to several public input sessions. Those meetings will lead to recommendations to the state Department of Natural Resources.Eventually, the Dane County Board of Supervisors could vote on rules and regulations.Jennifer Alexander, president of the Greater Madison Chamber of Commerce, said that some of the proposals she has heard are raising red flags."To keep our lakes and our water resources at our best is a laudable goal, but these recommendations coming out of this project have some pretty far-reaching impact and can impact tens of thousands of property owners," she said. The recommendations could impact properties up to 1,000 feet from lakes and ponds and 300 feet from rivers and streams.Hearings are set for Tuesday in Verona and Wednesday in Sun Prairie. For More Info:
