Innocence Project Seeks New Trial For 1992 Killing

Project Says Witness Has Recanted Damaging Testimony

The Wisconsin Innocence Project is seeking a new trial for a man convicted of killing a man in a Green Bay paper mill 17 years ago.

The Innocence Project said a witness against Reynold C. Moore, 62, has since recanted his testimony. A hearing on the group's request is set for Tuesday.

Moore was one of six men convicted in 1995 of being party to first-degree intentional homicide.

The victim was Tom Monfils, 35. His body was found at the bottom of a paper-pulp vat at the then-James River plant in 1992. A weight was tied around his neck.

Prosecutors said he was killed after telling police one of the six men planned to steal an extension cord.

The six were convicted, although one man's conviction has since been overturned.
