BadgerCare Plus Nears Funding Limit

Program Started In July

The state's BadgerCare Plus core plan is continuing to see great popularity as it approaches a funding limit set by the state and federal government.

The program started in July to provide health care for childless adults has seen much greater interest than many state officials expected, and that's leading it toward a funding limit.

As of Sept. 30, just less than 33,000 people are enrolled for the BadgerCare Plus core plan.

The Medicaid and state funded plan had a funding limit of $154 million, which the secretary of the Department of Health Services said would lead to about 50,000 people being able to enroll.

The program got an additional $10 million federal infusion last month, which at the current benefit level could provide coverage for a few thousand more people.

But that might not be enough to still serve everyone who is interested in enrolling.

As of early last month there were 34,000 people in the processing stage of the BadgerCare Plus core plan.

The governor's office confirmed to WISC-TV that there will be a health care announcement on Monday but wouldn't confirm what it's about or whether it's related to the BadgerCare Plus core plan.
