A Fitchburg woman is dead after her car was hit by a drunken driver early Sunday morning, police said.

The crash happened just after midnight on Highway 18-151 in the Town of Springdale.

Authorities said a 17-year-old from Cross Plains was driving in the wrong direction on the highway and crashed head-on into the car driven by Mackenzie Reynolds.

Reynolds died on the scene. Her passenger, Jerry Kurt, of Fitchburg, remains in critical condition.

The 17-year-old is in the hospital in serious condition. He is tentatively charged with homicide by intoxicated use of a motor vehicle, police said.
