21-year-old cited for 3 crashes in 3 hours
Authorities say accidents are alcohol related
A Verona woman was cited for allegedly causing three accidents in three hours across two counties in the state Friday.
Danielle Kraus, 21, was charged on suspicion of operating left of center, failure to maintain control and hit-and-run in Green County plus OWI in Dane County. Deputy Betsy Krantz said Kraus admitted to being involved in the crashes when speaking with deputies at the third accident scene.
Deputies from Green County responded to two reports of hit-and-runs Friday first at about 1 p.m. involving another vehicle and again at about 3:30 p.m. involving a single vehicle. Shortly after the 3:30 p.m., a third crash was reported in Dane County on Highway JG.
The third crash was a two-vehicle head-on collision with injuries, according to reports. Deputies responding to the third scene identified Kraus and said she and her vehicle matched descriptions from the earlier hit-and-run incidents.
The driver of the other vehicle in the first crash told police the car that struck her was driving the wrong way in her lane. The driver said she was unable to avoid the crash and her vehicle, occupied by the victim and her baby. The Green County Sheriff’s Office said the woman, Jamie Desmet, 35, and her baby were properly restrained when the accident occurred and not injured.
The second accident, a single-vehicle crash, was reported on Quarry Road in the Town of Adams. The vehicle left before deputies arrived.
The last accident on Highway JG just north of the Green County line in Dane County involved two vehicles in a head-on accident that resulted in an injury.
The report said Kraus was not injured during the first crash but did not indicate if she sustained injuries from the other two accidents or if she was treated.
Her vehicle sustained severe damage in the last two accidents, sheriff’s deputies said.
