Vietnam Memorial Makes Its Way To Wisconsin

Moving Memorial Honors Wisconsin Veterans

Updated: 11:30 am CDT July 10, 2009

There is a new moving tribute making its way to southern Wisconsin in honor of U.S. veterans.

Nearly 40 years after the war, many of the state's Vietnam veterans are getting to see a memorial honoring their comrades. The Vietnam Moving Wall Memorial is in Platteville this week, at the William's Field House parking lot.

The wall is an exact half-size replica of the memorial in Washington, D.C. It honors all of the men and woman who gave their lives in the war.

"We're not only honoring the names that are on the wall, we're also honoring all veterans who have served their country in their military service," said Vietnam veteran Michael Myers. "So, it's a celebration of heroes for Platteville."

Platteville residents worked for two years to bring the moving wall to town.

It's open for visitation 24 hours a day at the Williams Field House on the UW-Platteville campus until noon Monday, July 12.
