2 years for Racine mom in toddler’s abuse death
Conviction for failing to seek treatment after boyfriend beat child
A Racine mother was sentenced to two years in prison for a conviction related to the death of her toddler daughter.
Prosecutors said Cheyenna White failed to act while her boyfriend inflicted fatal injuries on her daughter in October 2011.
The Journal Times of Racine reported 24-year-old White broke down in tears during her hearing Friday. She said the loss of her child was more punishment than any person could mete out.
The judge said he didn’t consider White a bad person but it was his duty to seek justice for the little girl.
White is the mother of 2-year-old Donnasia Jackson, who prosecutors said died in October 2011 after White's boyfriend slammed her to the ground at least a dozen times.
The boyfriend, Andre Knighton, pleaded no contest to first-degree reckless homicide. He was sentenced to 30 years in prison in mid-November.
Prosecutors said White waited eight hours to seek medical treatment. An autopsy said the girl's injuries included a severe skull fracture.
