Two Grant County sheriff’s deputies were injured during a domestic disturbance at a residence on Highway V on Monday morning, according to a release.
Deputy Maradith McQuillan and Deputy Vance VanKirk responded to a domestic dispute between Ross Schwantes, 20, and his father at 9973 Highway V in the town of Glen Haven at 8:53 a.m., officials said. Schwantes had left the residence when officials were called.
While the deputies were at the house investigating the situation, Schwantes returned, according to the release. He was placed under arrest and began to fight both deputies.
During the altercation, Schwantes was taken to the ground, McQuillan hit her head on a China cabinet and VanKirk received a laceration on his lower right leg, officials said.
McQuillan suffered a severe concussion and was transported to Grant Regional Health Center for treatment. VanKirk’s leg injury required minor treatment.
Schwantes was charged with two counts of felony bail jumping, criminal damage to property, disorderly conduct -- domestic related and one count of felony resisting an officer with substantial injury, according to the release. He is being held on a $5,000 cash bond.
Schwantes is also charged in a prior case for 20 felony counts of forgery.
McQuillan is home recovering from her injuries and will be off work for a period of time. Schwantes was not injured in the arrest.
