Two people involved in a head-on crash in Spring Grove Township on Friday night were killed, according to Green County Sheriff's Department.
Officials said the crash occurred at about 5:20 p.m. on Highway 11/81 about a half mile east of Bagley Road, east of Juda.
Investigators said a car driven by a Walworth County man was heading eastbound on Highway 11/81 in the westbound lane. They said the car crashed head-on into a westbound pick-up truck driven by Israel Lara, 37, of Monroe. Lara died at the scene, officials said.
The Walworth County man was transported to the Monroe Clinic Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival, officials said.
There were no passengers in either vehicle and both vehicles sustained extensive damage, officials said.
Authorities said that both were traveling at or near highway speeds when the collision occurred, but alcohol does not appear to be a contributing factor. It is unknown at this time why the automobile was traveling in the wrong lane.
It is anticipated that the Walworth County man's identity will be released Saturday afternoon after family has been notified. The investigation into the cause of the crash continues, authorities said.
Brodhead Police and Juda Fire Department personnel diverted traffic while State Highway 11/81 was closed for about two-and-a-half hours.
The deaths are Green County's first and second traffic fatalities of 2012, officials said.
