Jefferson County authorities said a 12-year-old boy suffered a head injury when he was hit by one of the fireworks being discharged at a home during a Fourth of July party.

Jefferson County Sheriff Paul Milbrath said the call came in just after 10 p.m. on Saturday. He said the incident happened during a gathering at a home in the Town Of Farmington, which is located about 45 miles west of Milwaukee.

Milbrath said the boy was airlifted to Froedert Hospital in Milwaukee.

The sheriff's office continues to investigate the incident. Authorities haven't released the boy's name or condition.
