MADISON, Wis. -- The Goodman Pool in Verona is going green by installing solar panels to heat its water.

The Goodman Jewish Community Campus is installing these panels, and campus representatives said they shouldn't affect people's experience at the pool.

Right now, the pool is heated by a gas heater. Once the solar panels are operating, the pool can cut back on using the gas heater.

On a sunny day, the panels will heat up 80 percent of the pool, officials said.

Jamie Gepner, of the Goodman Jewish Community Campus, said that the motivation for the change was due to several factors.

"The experience should be the same for everybody, just as gentle as we can be on the environment. That was the main pressing issue behind it and of course, the financial aspect for us in the long run," she said.

Officials said that the center was able to install the solar panels with the help of tax credits and grants from Focus on Energy.
