Report: Doyle Failed To Properly Account Travel Expenses

Report Says Doyle, Staff Didn't Supply Receipts Over Two Years

Updated: 6:24 am CDT July 6, 2009

A report by the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel said Gov. Jim Doyle didn't properly account for 145 travel expenses over two years, which is required by the state's travel policy.

The policy requires state employees to provide receipts for flights, hotels and other travel expenses.

According to the report, Doyle and his staff accounted for only 25 percent of their travel costs.

A representative for Doyle said the governor's office acted appropriately in all cases and Doyle will not change how he tracks travel expenses.

The report was a collaboration between the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, the Wisconsin Center for Investigative Journalism and a University of Wisconsin-Madison journalism class.
