Circus Wagons Make Stop At Capitol

Parade Returns After 6-Year Hiatus

Updated: 1:28 pm CDT July 1, 2009

Two patriotic-themed circus wagons from the Circus World Museum in Baraboo were on display in front of the state Capitol on Wednesday.

The wagons were promoting the July 12 Circus Parade in Milwaukee.

Circus World Museum executive director Steve Freese said the stop in Madison gives everyone a taste of what the parade will be like. He said the parade will be the largest one ever staged.

The parade is coming back after a six-year hiatus. It will feature about 50 horse-drawn vehicles, 50 authentic circus wagons from the museum's collection and more than a dozen marching bands.

The event is meant as a re-creation of circus parades of the early 1900s, but on an even grander scale.
