Updated: 12:55 pm CDT June 30, 2009

Beloit police are in the midst of a homicide investigation after a weekend shooting that left one man dead and another wounded.

Police found David Deangelo Davis and Anthony Gibson in a car on Highway 81, near Woodward Avenue, at about 3:30 a.m. on Sunday.

Davis was pronounced dead at the hospital from injuries sustained in the shooting. Gibson remains hospitalized in serious but stable condition.

Police said that two men crashed their car after being wounded in a shooting. They said the two men are from Chicago, but were staying in Beloit.

Beloit Police Capt. Bill Tyler said that investigators are attempting to figure out what preceded the shooting

"We believe there had to be some triggering event. Some type of altercation or discussion or some type of situation which caused them to come together at one spot where a shooting took place," Tyler said.

Investigators said that they believe they know where that shooting took place.
