MADISON, Wis. -- A Dane County judge has ruled the county wrongfully withheld documents from the news media in the Brittany Zimmermann case. The judge ruled Friday that the county must now pay the media's legal fees."The county was deliberately withholding substantial portions of its 911 investigation report and voluminous e-mails and all digital recordings of the requested 911 phone calls pertaining to the crime," the judge said in the ruling.WISC-TV was one of the four news organizations involved in the lawsuit. The group sued to get documents pertaining to the county's investigation of its 911 Center and a call from Zimmermann's cell phone the day she was slain.Judge Richard Niess has not yet set the amount to be repaid. The county has not determined if it will file an appeal, but if it did and lost, those costs would also have to be paid by the county.
