Authorities Investigate Pardeeville Death

Police: 2 Men, Woman Involved In Physical Altercation

Columbia County authorities are investigating the death of a man in Pardeeville after a physical altercation on Monday night.

Officers were called to the area in the 100 block of North Main Street, about a fight in the street apparently involving two men and a woman.

One man was injured and taken to Divine Savior Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 5:30 a.m. The victim was identified as Thomas Kratz, 43, of Montello.

The other man and woman were both taken into police custody. The man was detained because of on outstanding warrants while the woman faces a disorderly conduct charge.

The Columbia County Sheriff's Department said James J. Henke, 46, of Pardeeville, is being held at the Columbia County Jail on two outstanding traffic warrants.

Lt. Mike Babcock of the Columbia County Sheriff's Department said that both Henke and the woman are being interviewed.

Authorities executed a search warrant at an address in the 100 block of North Main Street. The Columbia County Sheriff's Department said investigating deputies recovered a knife on the roof of the apartment building. The sheriff said further testing of the knife will be conducted to determine if it is the weapon that was used in the homicide.
