Woman Killed In Head-On Collision On Highway 78

Witness Said Vehicle Crossed Centerline

One woman was killed after a head-on collision on Highway 78 in the Town of Mazomanie on Monday afternoon.

A witness told the Dane County Sheriff's Office that a Chevrolet Malibu crossed the centerline, near County Road Y and Wilkinson Road, missed a tractor-trailer but hit a pickup truck heading in the other direction.

The driver of the Malibu died at the scene. The man driving the pickup suffered non-life-threatening injuries and his female passenger was seriously hurt. Both were taken to local hospitals for treatment.

Authorities identified the victim as Diana S. Griffin, 51, of Black Earth.

They said that while the investigation is continuing, alcohol might have been a factor.
