Updated: 5:44 pm CDT June 11, 2009

The American Red Cross Badger Chapter is assisting a family whose apartment was destroyed in a fire Thursday morning.

The fire broke out at a four-unit apartment building on the 100 block of West Windsor Avenue in Cottage Grove around 4 a.m. Thursday.

Everyone was evacuated and no injuries were reported, WISC-TV reported.

The Red Cross said the apartment of a family of four sustained major damage in the fire and that it is providing assistance with lodging, food, clothing and replacement eyeglasses.

The Red Cross said residents of the other three units had left the scene prior to the disaster workers' arrival. The Badger Chapter said it will provide assistance to the other residents as needed.
