Third Person Dies Following Wreck Near Mauston

Authorities Say Car, Minivan Collided

Updated: 7:48 pm CDT June 8, 2009

A third person died from injuries after a weekend traffic crash in Juneau County.

Juneau County Coroner Howard Fischer said Monday that Ralph Evans, 76, of New Lisbon, died late Saturday at University of Wisconsin Hospital. Earlier, Geneva Winkler, 85, of Westfield, and Joan Reynolds, 48, of Sparta, died after the morning crash near Mauston.

The Juneau County Sheriff's Department said Winkler's car crossed the center line and into the path of an oncoming minivan driven by Reynolds' husband, William Krueger.

Authorities said Krueger tried avoiding Winkler by moving into the wrong lane, but Winkler swerved back into her lane.

Krueger was in fair but stable condition Monday at UW Hospital. His 14-year-old daughter was treated and released.
