Updated: 9:17 pm CDT June 2, 2009

Opening statements were held Tuesday in Dane County Court in the trial for the man accused of shooting another to death in July 2007.

James P. Bohanan is charged with first-degree intentional homicide. Police said he shot Kevin Cobbins, 26, in the driveway of a Loreen Drive duplex on Madison's West Side. Cobbins was from Waunakee.

Authorities said Bohanan eluded police for nearly a year before a tip lead detectives to a Chicago home in May 2008.

The trial is expected to last about one week.
